Creating and using light ( 3D Graphics )

Creating Shadows ( 3D Graphics )

Today we looked at using light in 3DS Max to create shadows. This was a very useful technique to learn as it makes designs look a lot more realistic and can create the desired affect that you want to establish to the viewer. We used a range of different lights including spot and target to see the different effects they can create and I feel confident that I can now use light effectively.

Sculptris ( 3D Graphics )

Today I learned the basics in the new software that we will be using and really enjoyed it. Sculptris enables you to create pretty much anything that you can think of. This was just a taster session in how to use the software and by next week we are expected to have our own design created.

Editing colour in video ( Video Concepts )

In this weeks Video concepts session we had to film a short clip of something that had colour and then edit the footage in Final cut pro to create the 'sin city' affect.

Composition 1 ( Graphics and Design )

Materials ( 3D Graphics )

For todays session we learnt how you can create material Id for quick and easy selections of different body parts or the parts of a CD player. Using materials was quite difficult to master at first but I think I got the hang of it in the end. By using the material window as well as changing colour you can add different fabrics and textures to anything, wood texture for example or even see through glass.

Vehicle Design ( Graphics & Design )

In todays session we looked at reference material from films and games to create vehicles. The parameters for the land vehicle: Had to be an exploration vehicle, 6 wheels and a door. Parameters for the flying vehicle: Had to be some sort of surveillance/exploration craft (no guns), 2 engines and a door.

Character design ( Graphics & Design )

For our first Graphics and Design session we created a character design. The aim being to design a suit that could be practical to use in real life. For my character I chose a medieval/fantasy type design.

3D software ( 3D Graphics )

So today I started on my new course Computer animation and Visual effects and within half an hour I was already learning how to use 3D software that I had never used before. The software I was using was 3Dmax and the session was basically a beginners guide to using the software. During the session I managed to create these shapes applying different techniques and styles to a basic shape. This was a brilliant introduction session to 3D work and this is just the start.
